The Mighty Lymphatic System

By Brenda Layou LMT CR

The Lymphatic System for Dummies!

This system is much like the Waste and Garbage Disposal Systems we take for granted. In fact we need to flip that sentence around, the Lymph system is the original and is nothing short of a miracle. But right now I want to keep it very simple.

The lymphatic system is an extensive drainage network that helps keep bodily fluid levels balanced and the immune system healthy. The lymph system is made up of a network of lymphatic vessels that carry a white/yellowish transparent watery fluid, containing protein molecules, salts, glucose, urea and other substances throughout the body – lymph.

The Lymphatic system consists of a network of branching vessels that transverse all body tissues and organs. Lymph flows through the body in a slow rhythmic manner. It has no pump; it relies mainly on our breathing and movement of the body.

The lymphatic system is a critical part of the body—you have twice as much lymph fluid as blood! It is a network of tissues and organs that rid the body of toxins, waste, and other unwanted materials.

The Effects of Lymph Drainage

By manually stimulating the lymphatic system, you:

Increase the carrying capacity of the lymph system, allowing it to process up to 10 times more fluid than normal.

Increase the flow through the lymph nodes, filtering out waste products, dead cells, excess proteins and toxins from the tissues.

Increase the production of lymphocytes, thereby increasing the body’s ability to fight infections.

Activate the parasympathetic response, producing a body-wide relaxation effect.

So as you can see we all can benefit from Lymphatic Drainage Treatments. Most of us empty trash cans in our homes and work places daily and then have a waste management company take that TRASH weekly right? Well helping our body do what it is set up to do is a great practice in light of the toxic way of life we now all tend to be exposed to. If you have any areas that you feel are not working in optimal health, then Lymph Drainage Techniques are just what you need.
