Indian Head Massage

Indian head Massage is an ancient Ayurvedic Therapy that has been practiced for thousands of years. The focus of IHM is the stimulation of the marma points that are found around the head, neck and shoulders, and the application of warmed oil to the scalp. Marma points are energy points that can be compared to acupuncture points in Chinese Medicine. The therapist uses a range of different massage pressures and rhythms to stimulate the head, neck, upper back and shoulder area.

Massaging the scalp increases blood flow to the hair follicles and surrounding areas, bringing vital nutrients and oxygen. It stimulates the waste disposal systems that eliminate toxins. Rubbing the scalp stimulates the production of sebum, the skin’s natural oil. Sebum works to condition, nourish and protect all parts of the hair. The use of additional warmed oils such as sweet almond oil, argan oil or coconut oil, can really help it to penetrate into all layers of the hair shaft, locking in moisture. This creates a glossy shine and prevents breakage by giving the hair extra elasticity.

Treatment can provide instant relief from tension and stress symptoms in the face, head, neck and shoulders. It can induce a state of calm, peace and tranquility. Eye strain, tension headaches and migraines can be relieved and sleep patterns improved. Lymphatic drainage can be improved and blood flow to the brain can be increased with consequent improvement in concentration and memory.

Conditions such as PTSD, concussions, whiplash, anxiety, headaches, insomnia, jet lag and hypertension can benefit from this treatment.

Warmed oil in this massage is recommended but not required. You do not have to have warmed oil added to your hair, just let me know.
